Project Assignments, not sure where to talk about this - 05-11-2010, 11:52 AM

I really really want to delve into some serious street/photojournalistic photography, but im having a hard time knowing where to start.

I have a few ideas in mind, but could use some direction.

What about this: Start off a topic with an assignment for 1 to 2 photographs with a brief description of the photograph explaining how its pertinent to the topic.

I think topics of current events or things may appeal, I dont know.

I really want to start a serious photodocumentary project, but dont think I can commit myself to something that may take years to finish.

Im in a pickle...Ideas? Thoughts?

I found this guy to be a good inspiration for street.

His web site is here: MIKE PETERS PHOTOGRAPHY

Forget about it as a “project “, just go out and shoot.

For me -- photography is about having something to say, but wanting to say it with images.

So with that in mind, you are asking other people about what you want to say?

Imagine how nutty someone would be if they walked up to you and said, "Pardon me sir, I have a wonderful voice, but I am not sure what words this wonderful voice should be saying? Please tell me what to say!"

Find out what you want to say, and say it.

Everyday we sit down with friends, the conversation hardly ever stagnates, because we have something to talk about. Whatever it is that you talk about with your friends, put that in pictures.

---------------------------
Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

True, I guess im lost on where I want to start with this. Im thinking doing a small photo-documentary about my grandparents. That might be a good place to start.

Just start shooting and you'll find your focus as you edit your images. I have had a few personal projects take shape after I noticed that I'd taken several shots in that particular subject over time. I didn't even realize I was doing it, but found the focus as I saw the work come together on the light table (or in lightroom for you younger shooters).

Look back at your work and see if you find a pattern. A project may start to develop...
