http://rolandogomez.net/private/rangefindercover.jpg
cover he did for Rangefinder.

I think he was the best speaker this year at the Expo, next was a tie between Mr Ames and Hanson, there were a couple that I just couldn't stand and left their presentations and the rest were fine for what they offered.

Yeah it was free so no need to complain but I would like to give kudos to where they are deserved.

I didn't get to make it. He has a meet up group here in San Antonio too.

What were the highlights of his WB presentation?

Did you get to hear anything from Kirk Tuck as well?

Spent a week with RG in the Virgin Islands with his Playboy models.
Learned a lot, and even got some knowledge about photography

I think I learned more than you did on that trip. I learned who not to assist... very valuable lesson!

I was actually surprised by how much it helped my ability to work with lighting outdoors.

WB- basically DO NOT SET YOUR CAMERA ON AUTO WB! If you can dial in K scale shoot at around 6000K, also learn to use a colormatch chart and use it again and again if the model changes outfits or the lighting changes drastically. Also how to gel your lights to get the type of sky that you want (as illustrated with the Rangefinder Cover), he said that they printed it a bit too yellow for him.

Yeah he is heading back down to the VI really soon again for another workshop, he really likes that infinity pool.

I think I learned more than both of you!!! But then, I got to break Rolando's rule about photographers sleeping with the models.

I also learned that the person you assist will never leave you alone again.

It sounds like Rolando's presentation was good. I am sorry that I missed it.

To be honest I was one of the folks who walked out on him, he is stuck on the square image and a few other things that I just wasn't going to waste my time on-I actually tried to set in on him multiple times and each time I just couldn't force myself to stay.

One thing that kirk said that I totally disagree with is "that monopods serve no purpose".

YOu'd never catch me sleeping with any of those models. If I found the need to fall asleep, shoot me on the spot.....

As Jerry Seinfeld said, "I am not really sure how sleep got all tangled up with THAT! You're not really sleeping."

I don't know though-- there are several of them that I would love to cuddle up next to and take a nap!

And honestly -- I had a fairly large learning challenge on my hands when I was down there. The guy that I was assisting didn't speak Texan all that well, and had never really used his camera off of Auto mode, and had absolutely never used external lights. So we spent seven seperate shooting sessions trying to learn a new aspect of how the camera worked, and trying to ensure that we didn't lose sight of the fact that there was a gorgeous woman in front of us. Poor guy got kinda tired towards session six and seven. The coolest part of the week for me (aside from the afternoons poolside) were the late night talks into the wee hours about all manner of subjects.

As far as white balance and Rolando is concerned -- for me and his teaching -- it was one of though lightbulb moments. Makes perfect sense and all, but until you see it demonstrated, it would be pretty esoteric

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

I just wish that Rolando would have used the one model, she is on the cover of his last book, that he had there and shot some examples with her and showed us some of his technique and thought processes but since it was free I can't really complain.

Jeeze being stuck on an Island with 3 or 4 voluptuous models for almost a week must be rough.
