Well! I bit the bullet - 05-16-2010, 03:31 PM

and went digital! Friday I aquired a Canon EOS Rebel XS and two lenses, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III. I'm just about to go blind reading the manual and learning to use this thing.

My first choice was Nikon and had drooled over it every time I went to Sam's, then I picked up this Canon and almost immediately learned how to change the shutterspeed, ISO, and aperture. Also this camera included 2 lenses.

The other reason for choosing Canon over Nikon is my Sister-in-law. She and her husband have a history of borrowing things and returning them broken. Several weeks ago she bought a Nikon D40.

I'm off to fire my Canon!!!

Go to Canon's website and download the PDF's of the manual(s). You can print them full page so that would be easier on your eyes.

Be sure to set your camera on P for Professional!
Enjoy!
Spend extra time on reading the White Balance section of the manual.

Eeeeewwwwwwww, white balance, the third rail of digital photography! There are mores cures for this "ailment" than you can find for athlete's foot! About the same number are successful in mixed lighting.

Thanks guys. Must tread lightly around SIL. She and Princess are the only sane creatures out of the remaning 5 sisters and 1 brother, and she's just barely hanging on the edge of sanity.

Daniel, good idea! Down loading now.

Naturally, you are the best judge of that, so I will spare you my own proven remedies.

(No relatives were actually harmed in the formulation and application of these remedies)

It took me a while to make the switch but no regrets at all and the learning curve is not too bad with digital...post processing was the hardest thing for me to pickup, but it's getting better all the time(IMO)...remember we're here to help so let her rip and have fun!!
