Wow, that's terrible. I don't even think the body near the lens mount would accept larger lenses without colliding with eachother.

Also, if you had a flash on the hotshoe, wouldn't your forehead bump into it while trying to look through the viewfinder?

yeah if they would have put the 24-70mm on it I'd actually would give it a chance...

Not to mention that as a D4X, I would expect there to be the side controls for portraits shots.

P.O.S. in my opinion.

So, you favor having the gear off center to the point of stressing the tripod mount hole itself?

Leica gear is light. Try it and you'll understand.

as you will see -- Stovall's comment was in reference to my "rookie mistake" remark, and rightly so. Lots of cameras in the past have had off center tripod holes.

I will say that in this case, of the nikon design, it seems that the design serves no purpose at all other than being different. I could see if all of the elements severed a purpose in the way that they are arranged, but it seems that in order to be different the designer had to make it unusable.

The more that I look at this design, the more that I think it is absolute and complete crap, with nothing at all redeeming about it

Not a real design. Don't expect any great changes in the basic external design when the D4(x) comes out.

Did anybody else click through to his portfolio?

I left him some feedback, based on what little I can tell from the pics. Maybe if enough of us did, he'd take some of it into consideration the next time he tries to design for us?

He's hardly an industrial designer right now. Maybe someday. This guy is just a student. He needed to come up with an interesting idea for a school project and like many students, he came up with an interesting yet impractical design. Still, a nice school project. :)

FYI, he builds computers and designs websites. He painted a mural. He was a grunt in an auto garage. He parked cars. Here's his resume. Marc Levinson - Industrial Design - San Francisco, California
Good luck Marc!

I'm thinking the guy should probably have his doctor reduce the dosage on his medical marijuana prescription just a tad.

On the other hand, it would make a fine paperweight/conversation piece...

Is Leica your answer for everything?

Canon or Tachihara but a Leica will do 90% of what you need to do and the optics are the standard othere' are judged by.
