Roy doesn't complain, he doesn't need to be in the spotlight, he goes out every game and does his job. Roy has been with the Astros his entire career, 10 years. 8 of those years he has been the opening day starter.
Unfortunately, within the past four years Roy has been the victim of a poor offense that failed to score runs when holding the other team to 1, 2, 3 runs per game. He's also been victim to a cheap owner, Drayton McLane, that's made some poor decisions in the past. It seems McLane (along with our GMs, not including Ed Wade) sign, past their prime, pitchers at a discount rate. Plus, in the past 3-5 years they've traded away some great young pitching prospects in order to "rent" free agent superstars for a few months trying to get into the playoffs. All this in turn means Roy has no supporting staff.
You call them rats jumping ship...I call him deserving of a chance to win a World Series. It's obvious this is not going to happen in the next 2-3 years for the Houston Astros. It looks like we're headed towards rebuilding the team. Back in 2006 when he sign a 5 year extension, Roy made it clear he would retire after his contract was fulfilled in 2011, possibly in 2012.
