Unhappy Roy Oswalt is asking to be traded. - 05-21-2010, 08:14 PM

It's sad but I can understand his request. He's 2-6 this year with a 2.66 ERA. He has the lowest run support in the league.

And to make matters worse, Lance Berkman said he wouldn't be opposed to being traded as well.

Good for him. Berkman will be next. Astro's needed a wake up call and this was it.

I know its sad, but it would be for the best.

By the time the Astros are good again these guys will not be much help.

Trade them for some good prospects. Try to get the minor league clubs stocked up.

They are going to be stuck with Lee and his salary.

Just rats jumping a sinking ship. Maybe they should be more "leaders" and step up and pep these guys up. Win as a team, lose as a team!

Obviously you don't know Roy Oswalt. He's is what I would consider to be the ultimate baseball player. I put him up there with Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell! Roy doesn't complain, he doesn't need to be in the spotlight, he goes out every game and does his job. Roy has been with the Astros his entire career, 10 years. 8 of those years he has been the opening day starter.

Unfortunately, within the past four years Roy has been the victim of a poor offense that failed to score runs when holding the other team to 1, 2, 3 runs per game. He's also been victim to a cheap owner, Drayton McLane, that's made some poor decisions in the past. It seems McLane (along with our GMs, not including Ed Wade) sign, past their prime, pitchers at a discount rate. Plus, in the past 3-5 years they've traded away some great young pitching prospects in order to "rent" free agent superstars for a few months trying to get into the playoffs. All this in turn means Roy has no supporting staff.

You call them rats jumping ship...I call him deserving of a chance to win a World Series. It's obvious this is not going to happen in the next 2-3 years for the Houston Astros. It looks like we're headed towards rebuilding the team. Back in 2006 when he sign a 5 year extension, Roy made it clear he would retire after his contract was fulfilled in 2011, possibly in 2012.

Of course not.

BTW, I see the Rangers are holding down first place over there in the AL West. Looks like they'll only have to hold off Oakland, with their young pitching staff.

Being from the same state, why are the Rangers in the West and the Astros in the central? Kinda odd don't you think?

You should have said yes!!!

The Rangers are doing OK in a weak division this year.
They declared bankruptcy yesterday in hopes of getting the sale done before the trade deadline. If the sale does not go through you can expect the Angels to win again.

The weird part about the division is the AL West only has 4 teams.

Sucks when they are playing on the West coast. The games start at 9:00pm.

The NL Central 6.

I went to the Astros game Friday. They won !!!

As much as I loved Lima, he was an Astrodome pitcher. And Lima was no where close to being the caliber pitcher as Oswalt. That huge dome aided Lima in pitching well. He could get away with throwing pitches up in the strike zone and letting the batters crank it to the deepest parts of the park...for outs!

Lima had two great years with the Astros in 1998 & 1999. When the team moved to the new park in 2000, Lima went 7-16 with a 6.65 ERA.

I totally understand. If a trade happens I'll be very sad.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but out of all the teams out there...I'd like to see him go to the Rangers.

I feel bad for Roy and Lance. . . I thought they would be life time players for the Astros, but as stated, it's a little too late for a chance at a ring for the Astros for them, and they deserve a ring. I'd like to see both Roy and Lance stay, but that's purely selfish motives. I would have like Ausmus to stay too. . . and Biggio and Bagwell. . . and a hundred others. . .

I think McLane needs to loosen the purse strings, and put out for a chance for a winning team. Maybe this will be his smack in the face hello? is anyone there call. . . the few and far between die hard Astros fans can hope right?

Both of those could happen. Neither is very likely.

Roy's salary is a little to big for the Rangers. If they can get trough the bankruptcy it might be a little more likely.
But I have the feeling that he is staying right here or going to the..gasp... North East..NY or Boston.

As far as the Texans. ( by the way, Dallas had a team named that...)
As much as I like watching them play. I would expect a little backslide this year. Not only are they playing their own tough division, they are playing the entire NFC East.

Dallas is a easy early Super Bowl pick.

Its in Dallas. Its a non-cap year. Despite everything else, Jerry wants to win and will spend the money.
