Maybe it was a Prison Break-type thing, and the brilliance was eluding the proper authorities, since photographing on railroads is illegal.

Folks, please remember that posting critiques of random photographer's websites is not very good web etiquette. In the past we've had angry folks when they discover this by following their referral history. Even sometimes they are members here.

Please feel free to critique them on their own site, but not here...

I am not arguing your rule, simply making an observation. Isn't placing your work on the web just that? Inviting the WORLD to view and critique your work? Why would it matter WHERE it was critiqued?

It you can't take the critiques, then don't post your work to the web...simple. I welcome ANY critique to my work (product), in order to improve and move forward. And if I post it up for the world to see, I wold be foolish to think random people would NOT comment, critique or even make derogatory comments about it.

If people are talking about it behind your back, how is that helping you again?
Scott mentioned if you want to critique then do it on the photog site, not here(unless the person asks for it).
It's also rude to critique if the person didn't ask IMHO.

It's really just common courtesy, at least I thought it was.

The bigger problem is there have been verbal threats of legal action against Abel for allowing it on TPF. I won't disagree with public data being open for critique, but just not here for liability concerns. No discussion on the legality, but even needing to defend yourself against legal action will cost a significant amount of money...

Every photog discovers the old railroad pics idea at some point. It may be cliche, but it's something we've all done early on... I'm not going to blast these people for trying something new (to them).

How? If I tracked it back and read the comments it might open my eyes to something I overlooked or missed in the beginning. (And if it is just random, worthless opinions, then I will just hit the back button and let idiots be idiots. Lord knows there is more of those than anything else. Including my opinion if you feel so inclined.) And then there is the old adage: "Bad press is better than no press." I can't tell you how many times that has worked in the business world.

Just how many times have you (honestly) asked for permission to comment, critique and pass judgment on someone or thing? It would be foolish to think that someone is going to ask permission or make a judgment of you or your work if they have anything even remotely negative to say. Not to mention, you are getting an that person's honest straight forward, un-biased opinion. If they comment to you, they will invariably NOT say their true feelings and opinion.

On the legality of it, I wouldn't argue that in a million years. I find it rather amusing that someone would threaten to Sue a public forum owner for what a member said. Now that is funny!

Sure if someone takes the time to come to a forum, create and account, figure out how the rules of linking and the linking system work, introduce themselves, and then post a picture, by all means let em have it. But someone that doesnt even know you, or this place exists, isnt likely to check the links and come here to see what it is, and if they do will likely be offended by the shots taken, says that this serves no purpose other than you dumping on someone that is doing something you think you are better at than they are.... Just because you would think it was awesome to have done to you doesnt mean that everyone else will. The problem with standards is, there are so many to chose from...

I try my best not to talk about people behind their back. I'm sure I'm not perfect in that aspect though.
But my point is, posting someone's website in a forum and dissing their pictures is just flat out rude IMHO. If you don't agree I'm not going to try and convince you.

Two things -- first of all -- the person claiming that the photos were a "result of her brilliance" was the friend. I wish I had friends that would proclaim my work to be brilliant.

second -- it is not the way things are done around here. From the moment that I signed up as a member, Abel has tried to maintain a board that was welcoming and open to all photographers. Tearing down peoples work that are not members here is counter to that goal.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

tearing down ANYONES work in an unconstructive way is not acceptable in my book... If you arent part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Scott and Jake, first of all let me apologize if I offended anyone?
I did not want to hurt anyone's feelings..... I was just asking a simple questions about the picture of the person laying down the RR tracks!
I was not asking or saying that I wanted to critique her site.

Once again Jake, I was not trying to be rude.....

Zebulus, I did not ask if here work was any good or bad or ask if my work was good or bad! How are the shoots going with buddies?
