Why do I care? - 05-25-2010, 01:06 PM

New guy got hired on at my business. Kind of odd fellow and about 26 years old. He came here as a former "Navy SEAL." Well, that is all great but he is lying and it upsets me that he would claim to be a SEAL.

Maybe it is because I have met SEALS and I know the hell they go through to achieve the status. My brother in law was their doctor and can be seen here at 8:24

Why do I care? Should I care?

I could give you an honest answer as to why you 'care' but you would not like it.

You tell us why you 'care' instead. Why does his life concern you?

How are you sure he is not telling the truth?

Did he claim military experience on a resume? Did he claim SEAL experience on a resume?

If someone is lying about something like that - to me, that's a HUGE red light...

I thought those SEAL guys were all lifers, or at least stayed in longer than a few years. I suppose if he joined at 18, then got accepted to be a SEAL around a year or two later, well, I guess that's more than a few years... but still, I'd be surprised to meet a 26 yr old civilian that was a SEAL. Maybe a 30 or 35 yr old - unless the 20 something was kicked out of the SEALS for lying!

I know one guy who was Army Special Forces. He never really talks about being SF, and he certainly doesn't brag about it. He's quiet, collected, and is not out for any attention. It's been my experience that the guys who brag about SF/SEAL/RECON etc are rarely actually in the programs that they brag about. YMMV

He gave some history about him like hi my name is Rich, I have been doing X for a while etc. He said I have been in the Navy as a SEAL in Company 2. Since my BIL was the SEAL doc, I knew a little lingo so I asked him what class he was in. Answer was UMMM let me think (red flag) he said it was so long ago and he blerted out 387. Well, classes are just starting to be in the 300's and if it was THAT long ago it would have been in the 200's. I look back to when J was there and they were in the 220's. For those who have seen BUD/s....you know your class as well as your SSN.

I think what gets me is that wow, for someone to lie straight out the first time you meet them and to lie about service to your country. Hmmm.

+1 I've noticed that as well! Especially with the ones that have been under fire, didn't matter if they were spec ops or regular line troops. The ones that talked about it the most did the least if at all, the ones who did the most talked about it the least.

I would care because by claiming that and lying, he is taking a dump on the real men and women who do sacrifice themselves to protect us all.

Bingo, thank you for placing my thoughts to words.

The worker was let go today, he mentioned that he was a "SEAL" to a decorated Marine. Case Closed.

BTW, class 387(the class he claimed to be from after hard thought) hasn't happened yet.....Probably in the year 2014

I have on more than once lit up a lying unsat piece of trash. As a Marine I have no room for the bull****, lost a few civi jobs after I tore into a few fake SEALs and I'll keep doing so. Semper Fi

That is typical of a Walt (see here: Walts - ARRSEpedia ) I work with a deputy who used to be a REAL SEAL before he retired. Also check here: Another Walt Bites the Dust - Tanknet they have a good record of outing Walts of all kinds.
