Some people on here are experimenting with Fresnel "hot lights" but as you know these spots are expensive and put out a lot of heat. I wonder how hard it would be to find some "dead" spots (but intact casing and glass) and retrofit the back to place a modern "strobe/flash" in the back since most of these have an open door on the back you would just need to rig a speed ring onto it (kind of turn the fresnal rig into a softbox).
This change over would cut down on the heat of the set up, the only drawback that I would see is that you would need to push your lights power output up quite a bit to get the volume of light needed on the subject since the lens would knock a couple stops off probably.
Just an idea but I know fresnal rigs with some of the light makers are very expensive. |
