Any skydivers here? - 05-27-2010, 10:23 PM

My friends and I are contemplating on a sky diving trip. We are all first timers so we are total noobs at this. Just wanted to see if there were any seasoned skydivers here to get some suggestions or advice.

I am looking for suggestions on good jump schools or one with good rates?

If you were in California, I could tell you where to go... Or maybe even here in Dallas (there aren't too many choices).

You might be OK checking with the USPA (United States Parachute Association) and making sure any drop zone you choose is a member and ask for accident reports.

Listen to your jump masters. They know what they are talking about and most likely have thousands of jumps completed. And have fun! I stopped at 120 jumps and after becoming a dad. I'd love to go again. Once you're over the rush, it a very 'freeing' sport. You really can fly!

Thank you for the USPA suggestion. I did not even know that existed, I'll give it a look. I don't mind going to Austin, Dallas, or the surrounding areas if it comes highly recommended.

I've wanted to do it for awhile also.

The two best in the Houston area appear to be SkyDive Houston down by Pearland, and one called AggieLand or something up near A&M.

Have you gone to with them before?

Wanted to in college. Never had the money. Would still like to, but I will get my risk taking out of surfing and SCUBA diving now.

Place out in Rosharon. SKYDIVE Houston, great place, good staff and decent prices.

Great place to jump..

Skydive Perris in California! They had a great program.

I do not have as may jumps as Scott (about 65 jumps both military and civilian) but it is a blast. It has been awhile since I jumped, but most places require you to do a tandem jump or static line deployment first. Tandems are really affordable and allow you to get a taste for the sport so you may want to go that route.

Sorry, but I am of no help as to where here in Texas.

Tandem or static are options as long as you are under the weight limit. Tiny boys like me must go AFF. At least that was the case at Bay Area Skydiving where I used to jump.

Looks like AFF stands for “Accelerated Free Fall”.

I've done one tandem, and what a rush! Especially with it being on the North shore of Oahu.. checking out the whales on one side and mountains on the other..
