I am ripping my DVDs to mp4. All of them. And all my wifes. And all the ones we inherited from her mom.

I love Handbrake, but wish there was a way to speed this up.

Anyway, it is going to be nice to have all my titles on one distinct place.

How do you organize it?

Right now, I am doing it this way:
Folder O' MP4s> Movie Folder/ TV Folder/ Documentary Folder

In the Movie Folder, I am breaking it down into Genres.
Cartoons/Kids
Comedy
Romance
Drama
Action/Suspense
Music

In the TV Folder, I am basically just breaking it down into individual shows and ripping each episode individually. Same thing in the Documentary folder, though I may break it down into things like War, History, Social, Sports, as I think all my documentaries break down into one of those four categories.

Have yall done this before? How did you go about it?

I ripped them in full iso into Media -> Music / Video then break them down to their genre. But I only bought and ripped what I really like so my collection isn't very big ;)

That sounds like quite the task!
I stopped buying movies years ago, so I guess I would just have one folder called "movies I like" which would only have one movie in it(the classic Soul Plane of course).
I'm slowing embracing blu-ray though, so maybe I'll start collecting again.

I decided not to do the full ISO, due to size and ease of use. I want to be able to put the files on my phone, iPod or stream it to my TV. Basically this is me preparing for GoogleTV or a better AppleTV.

I started collecting DVDs in 98 when I got my first DVD player. My MIL was a shut-in, so basically all she did was watch DVDs and the Price is Right.

Some sources not given to general hype say we can expect a new Apple TV by the end of next month.

I saw that. I really like all my Apple products and will buy the iMac soon to go with my two MBPs, but I'm probably going to wait to see if the AppleTV can match what Google is putting in the GoogleTV. Directly, I really want this to have support for Netflix natively. I think GoogleTV is going to have that, and it is doubtful that AppleTV would since it would kill their iTunes sales.

Handbrake is VERY slow, but it will get you everything on the dvd, event the hidden easter egg files!

Is there a faster, just as reliable program for Apple? I've always been happy with Handbrake's output.

I've been using HB as well for quite a while. Works great for what I need plus it's free. I use it mainly to convert DVDs to iPhone format so I can watch while I do cardio.

Wishing I got the 32 gig iphone instead of the 16gig, because I could toss some more shows on it and watch them while working out.

86 Movies and 1 entire TV series (Arrested Development) are done.
This will never end.

I find DVD Decrypter or DVD43 to be the fastest, but probably not as intuitive as HB.

:) That's why I love my micro SD card on my phone.

Swap out 16 gb cards. I have one for music and one for movies/shows.

I've read on some mac forums (more specifically macrumors.com) that if you use "a full-size external DVD drive with FW it takes as little as 15 minutes or so to rip a DVD". I can't confirm this but it's what I've read.
One of these days I'm going to get a mac-mini for a HTPC system. Hulu plus my iTunes library and DVD library at the touch of a wireless keyboard? Heck yes.

That will keep you busy. Took me forever just to rip all my CDs.
