Cool Summer Temps 1980 Dallas vs 2010 - 06-03-2010, 02:06 PM

If it hits 100+ this weekend it will be a couple weeks earlier than the 100+ record streak started in 1980!

Been looking for the Highs and Lows from May 15th through Sept 1, 1980 with no luck to see how we compare to then but I believe that we have been hotter now for several weeks than we were that brutal summer.

So I am not the only one who thinks it has been hotter then normal this year?

I know we have had some really easy years the past couple but this year seems like it is hotter then it has been in a while.

Of course Today is cloudy and not as hot!

Been looking all over the net and came across the 69 day heat wave in 80 started around June 23rd but have not been able to find a source with the daily high/lows for that year. (there was one source but they wanted $35 for the info-WTF?) The NWS sites that I have come across don't go back that far.

So if anybody has any luck on finding the info please link it here.

Is this what you're looking for, or is it the one you looked at?

I was thinking it was more like mid to late 90's, and given what Don posted I think now it was 98 that the +100 streak seemed to go on forever.

Summer of '80 was a scourcher.

I was riding a motorcycle to work. Finally learned to carry a wet towel out to the bike, when I got off, to cool the seat down or ride standing up for the first mile or so.

I abandoned the freeways and took to riding residential streets so I could ride though the spray of sprinklers that were watering the streets in Highland park and University park.

Thank goodness for rich people!

1980 had the most 100 degree days and I believe the longest continuous streak of 100 and + days, also had several 110+ days. A lot of people remember 1998 since it was closer in time to now but 80 is the big kahuna for the DFW area (I also believe in other cities across the state).

The link given above is good for 98 but doesn't really have anything for 80. I guess I will need to go back and look at old newspapers on microfiche at the downtown Dallas library.

It's been crazy hot here in SA for weeks and it's only getting hotter. At this rate should be about 160 in August!

This year?

Didn't we get snow in mid march?

Just saying...
