Something Big Just Exploded Here - 06-04-2010, 04:14 AM

About 30 minutes ago, about 0345, I was awakened to a sound like that of a metal trash can falling 10 feet onto concrete, but then a boom went with it. Sort of a "Sh-h-h-h-BOOM!" When I went outside to investigate, I could not find anything out of the ordinary, other than I could hear dogs barking earnestly from great distances (in addition to my neighbor's dog to the West of me). I found some men out on the street corner who were also investigating. One of them said that he was looking down in his ally, when he heard a boom from all over and "everything lit up." He couldn't tell which direction it originated. He lives a block away from me. Both he and my neighbor across the street said they lost electrical power to their homes, though his power later came back on. My neighbor across the street now has the fire department out, trying to figure out why she still doesn't have electrical power. None of us know what that sound was.

My Lovely Bride the birdwatcher was ecstatic that a kingbird family decided to build a nest on the utility pole just behind our house last summer. Then, one lovely early summer evening, something in the nest bridged across a couple of somethings it shouldn't have, then ...

zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZBOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I probably shouldn't have said anything about fried chicken just about then.

Did her response involve a doghouse, perhaps?
