I've been working for the Census Bureau and we've noticed that there are a lot of families with older children with families who have come back home to share expenses, etc.
Economics starting to take effect. No political comments please.

I've learned that my kids are nothing more than boomerangs, throw them out and they come back. There have been several occasions where a couple of them have come back for a couple of months or so. My middle son went into the Navy and half way through basic training they medically discqualified him. Sucked because he told them about a blood disorder he had prior to going in but they still allowed him in after testing him, then he got there and was retested and disqualified at that point. Of course at this point he had already sold off a lot of his stuff he didn't figure he'd need for a while (car, drumset, etc.).

What does seem to be the key to them coming back has been every time I clean out the garage one of them ends up moving back home and all their stuff clutters up my garage again. I finally just stopped cleaning out the garage and so far it worked great, no kids back in quite a while.

I think i've *finally* gotten my oldest out and settled - he's 24. Youngest couldn't wait to leave, even lived with a friend for a bit when he was 16. Now he is 3 weeks away from turning 21, and i despair of him ever leaving home again.

We have the reverse. My 80-something parents have moved in with us (temporarily, at least). They sold their house in Tulsa and moved back to Dallas and are taking their time to consider their options. At least when we hear them up at 3:00 a.m., it's only because they are headed to the bathroom and not coming home from partying with their friends. :-D
