For an interesting experience, get behind two bus loads of foreign tourists in the cafeteria line at Old Faithful.

I don't go to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for the dining. I have, on occasion, been pleasantly surprised. A can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew on a Coleman stove is good eating with the Tetons for a backdrop.

When I want "Good Eats" I go to New Orleans or Belgium. When I want great food and even better scenery, I go to the National Parks in the Canadian Rockies.

Keep your priorities in the proper order.

One of my favorite memories of strange encounters with foreign guests was while visiting Emerald Bay @ Lake Tahoe. I'm sitting on a rock, mesmerized by the incredible green-blue water and two young Danish guys come up to snap some pics. They engage in a lengthy chat in their native language, then finally end the conversation with "okay, let's boogie." I almost fell off my perch laughing at the idea that THAT was what they had picked up in English.

i'm going to GTNP at the end of July. A couple of things I haven't planned yet:

1. Owen Spalding or Exum Route
2. Bronica, Mamiya and/or 5d to the top?
3. film - i plan on efke 25, a handful of 120 arista 100 and some velvia 50.

it's a great time. i'm lukewarm on yellowstone. while i agree there are some cool things to shoot, it's more of a huge glorified zoo to me.

and i agree with wayne about jordan. while it sounds interesting...i don't know if i would pay to go there. angola is interesting for me, but i don't pay for those trips.

If it were me, and it isn't, but if it were........

Plus-X & Tri-X & Velvia 50. Or, Tmax 100 and New Tmax 400 in place of the Plus-X and Tri-X. Ektar 100 would be nice too.

Perhaps I should elaborate on my smart a$$ remark re: Jordan.
1. It's dangerous.
2. Spend your money at home. Your neighbors will appreciate it.
3. It's dangerous.
4. Rent Lawrence of Arabia. Some of it was filmed in Jordan.
5. It's dangerous.

Folks travel from all over the world to see our fantastic country. You live here. See all of it that you can. There are several lifetimes of travel in North America.

A Zoo with geysers and hot pools that can cook you in a matter of minutes!

I love Yellowstone and try to get over there every 5- 10 years, my first visit being around 1960 when the bears would come to your car and beg for food at your window to now where you are lucky to see a bear 1/2 a mile away or fishing in the Yellowstone by Rainbow Bridge.

Now Yosemite I probably will never go to again- just a giant traffic jam!

Not this year. There are plenty of bears close to the road. Not begging at your car, but very close indeed.

That black bear looks like the man stalking and chewing variety.

I was there the year before the fires on a bicycle and the year after in my brand new Trooper II.

My priorities are fine, I was told by one of those "college" kids who was 28 when he spent 4 years working in GTNP how great the food was... had a couple other people talk about it... I like to try new things.

I now know better and the one of the OP's original questions was where to eat, I was saying I would skip that part. That is all.

Not comparing Yellowstone to Tetons but the Gyser Pools offer some very interesting colors and scenes that you can not find else where.

Waterfalls...

Plus fun signs....

I would seriously have a hard time choosing one park over the other.
