Well I'll give you that Jordan was inspiring to kids, but at the same time a kid growing up wanting to be a basketball player may have watched Jordan play on Sundays on "NBA on NBC" *queue music*, but during the week he got instructions and inspirations from his coach who in all likelihood was a washed up high school player. He also got to play with the neighborhood kids in pickup games, and used every opportunity to play and learn from everybody. I don't think there is a superstar in glamor photography per say the way it is in the NBA or the music industry so you just have to take inspiration where you find it even if it's a college kid who knows how to use his XTi.

Jason I would head over to HPB on NW Hwy and hit their stacks of used magazines and just pick up a bunch of the recent fashion rags and then do a websearch on the photographers that you like to see what portfolios of their works are on line.

Now most of these will have had major support staffs and makeup/hair folks working with them so you see what a large $$$ budget offers.

You make a VERY valid point, regarding the learning process. I am not going to discredit that. When I was in college, I kept a folder of snipped magazine pages. They were full of inspiring photography. However, I still learned the ropes from my professors (who would be the washed up players in this scenario). I still look at ads, magazines, newspapers, books, etc for inspiration. I was really just asking if anyone else knew of some really great spots online that I could add to my arsenal.

With the millions of websites available, I was sure that I was missing a few key spots to visit, especially since I don't actively follow fashion photography... there must be something that is obvious to a hardcore fashion photo lover that I've overlooked.

Yeah, I need to start subscribing to Vogue, or at least pick it up at HPB. It is obviously the quickest way to keep tabs on what the best shooters are doing right now. I fully understand the fact that there is a full support staff on those shoots. I'm not looking to do the exact same thing, though. I'm really just wanted to pull some ideas and inspiration that I can blend into my current shooting style. Just infuse something new into what I do. I know that I'll never actually shoot for Vogue, and I'm not trying to.

You want to be inspired by photographers who aren't still learning? You know the old saying "Once you stop growing you start dying"? I don't care how good a photographer you are, you shouldn't EVER stop learning and honing your craft.

And please, please, PLEASE show me a photographer who doesn't make errors and gets everything right.

You are twisting my meaning a bit. Still learning, as in "college kid" is much different than being a Michael Jordan and still learning.

one hint in searching for fashion -- seems that every photographer on there (even those that have ports filled with food and have food clients) are listing fashion, but very few are listing lingerie, so a selection of the lingerie will get you a list of fashion heavy shooters.

Wow, Phillip Ritchie is still learning and honing his craft while taking in 1/2 a million a year revenue.
