Yeah I agree on the baby cribs and some furniture since there have been so many recalls lately but a lot of the rest of it is pure bs especially on electronics and cameras!
(maybe on the low end of the cameras they may be right-why pay 60% of retail on a $150 camera for a used one that most likely is already dated but on the pro level stuff they are just WRONG !)

sometimes a blog writes just don't know that much about used stuff.
it might cost more if any repair is required, but sometimes it's just worth it. ($700 70-200mm VRI with stuck aperture blades? lol)
i personally haven't really had problems with used stuff.

I disagree with all of her suggestions.

She's basing her entire arguement off of: what you don't know... I bought my daughters carseat second hand.. From someone I knew... The grandparents had bought two britax carseats for their grand daighter... And the one in dads car wasn't ever used....so they sold it.

When I sold my bikes, I sold the gear (including helmets)... They had never been in a wreck or anything...

I paid $5 for a VCR/DVD combo... And oh boy! I tried it out before I handed over the $5! ;-)


There are things that you need to be educated on(like buying second hand cribs- make sure the slats aren't more than 2 3/4" apart)... And other stuff....but I think her article is misinforming....

the main theme throughout the whole article seemed to be -- Don't buy used because someone else might have used it.
