Anyone selling stuff here on TPF? - 06-15-2010, 12:30 PM

I have several items for sale on here. I think my prices are at or below current market prices. No one is responding to any posts - no replies, no pm's, no offers, nothing. I can't afford to just give it all away (or take a major loss) because I'm using the money to replace other equipment. Is the economy that bad or am I missing something obvious?

I have both bought and sold many items here. You need to consider the condition, location, and market 'need' to determine if your price to too high. I see one item is a camera body with no shutter count and no photographs of the item. You could possible get better response with this detailed information. I believe that's a mantra on many auction sites. Accurate information help sell the item and a picture is worth more $$$. Of course, YMMV...

I don't know what you're selling so I can't comment if you're really selling below or within current market prices.

But it depends on your motivation to sell, if you're selling for a profit then TPF ain't the place to be. If you're selling just to dispose then TPF is the place to be.

Lastly, TPF should not be the only place where you post your items for sale. Craigslist is free. You can create a page on your website, facebook page and then there's e-bay.

Don't feel bad. I've posted a couple of items in the past that didn't sell due to demand, I suppose. I'll probably give it another shot pretty soon. Just follow Scott's advice, and see what happens (definitely pictures of the items).

Folks buy and sell stuff here all day long. You just have to be selling what someone else wants and the price has to be right.

Thanks to everyone for your perspectives.

I've reduced my prices and will add pics of the 40D tonight...

The things that I have sold have been through here.
I have sold lenses and projectors. It just depends what is demand. I know that providing as much information about the equipment helps and of course pictures also help.

Your listings say "DFW" which implies to me that want a face-to-face meet up and will not ship, so I don't even look at your posts.

Your asking prices look reasonable to me. Maybe it's just the situation. It doesn't halp that Canon upgrades its bodies so often. Older models (more than 2 years out) are tougher to move than newer bodies.

The items that always moved the quickest for me, were the entry-level lenses and accessories. 50 1.8, kit lens, Tamron standard zoom, etc. I generally got my asking price.

There is a difference in "priced to sell".

I've been on enough random forums to see this.

Obviously you want to get the most for you money but then there are the sellers who are trying to get the best deal.

You have to be able to see both sides. If you saw your own ad would you buy it?

If I were in the market for equipment of that model and condition at that price, I absolutely would.

I've heard most people like to see where the item is physically located for purposes of deciding (quickly) if shipping is involved or not.

Seems you should at least look at listings to find out - or you may miss something you'd like to buy due to an erroneous assumption...

Many people got very tired of seeing something they were interested in, going to the trouble of reading the post, and discovering that the seller was only interested in a local, face to face meeting. So the location goes in the title to indicate you're only interested in a local sale, so people don't have to read the post if they know they can't get it anyway.
