The doctor may be telling my trucking days need to come to an end Monday. My health ins is from the company and would be paying for the procedure I will have to go thru. Its not like I would need to go thru the treatment on a long term basis (kidney stone) I have gone back to work the next day after the lithotripsy before. If I quit work immediately after the treatment would ins pay? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

it should but you can always call your insurance company and ask them. I would think that if your insurance is paid through the end of June you would be covered. The insurance company just cares whether or not the premium has been paid. I quit a job about three years ago (right before I got married) but waited until just after the first of the month so I would be covered until my wedding date. At that point, I could be added to my husband's policy due to life change. Hope this helps!

Kind of like asking for legal advice on the photo forum. Each company will likely be different, and it may vary state to state. Call the insurance company, they have the correct answer.

Generally speaking, coverage would end earliest at the end of the month of termination.
If the policy was in effect at time of treatment, it will be covered.
I believe you have to be given the option of continuing coverage on your own...
Just call the insurance company and ask. That's what they are there for.

Is COBRA an option for an 18 month extension?
And having had kidney stones, why would this end your job? Once they figure out what causes them, diet and meds can help. I had them for 5 years. Now I haven't had one for 6.

Food for thought: Chances are if you have one kidney stone you have more! Kidney stones are painful but not a disabling problem in your Insurance companies eyes. People either have kidney stones or they don't You can decrease the probability's that you will have another one by changing your diet. This all depends on the composition of the stone and its analysis so ask your Doctor. Your Insurance company would rather make money than loose it, so if you decide to give up your employment its to there benefit. the question is how are you going to handle the expense of the emergency room visit if/when you have another one? If you leave your job cobra is an option, However its about 2-3 times as much as what you are paying now. The avg. cost out of pocket in the ER can be from $2000 to 10000 depending what tests are ran,CT scans and if the stone is too large then lithotrypsy or stent placement which is a surgical procedure can cost can go up incredibly depending on if you get admitted to the hospital for pain control stent problems etc. Its good that you asked about this to inform yourself so you can make plans.

and since you have had kidney stones, they may be considered a preexisting condition
and possibly not covered under any insurance you may try to get in the future.
Sorry to hear about the stone --- they sure will make you a believer in Morphine!

What are some of the diet changes that you made? If you don't mind me asking.

First and foremost, more fluids. Less caffeine.
My stones are common calcium. Virtually omitted from my diet are asparagus, beets, greens and spinach. (Not much love lost there.) I also limit or eliminate grapes, cranberries and OJ. (Actually citrus juices.) I limit potatoes, tomatoes pineapple and strawberries.
The list is longer, but these are the main items.

The more fluid you drink the better of course the more you intake the more you have to relieve yourself too. The sedentary life of trucking, while not causing them is not good for them either. Doc has told me that "it would be better" with a different job. Didn't want to throw up a red flag at company or ins company till I was more sure about situation
