I just received a call back from Debbie at Harrell's
Graveside service will be held at 10am on Monday, 21 June at the Burkett Cemetary in Coleman
There were no instructions on flowers, but when his wife passed the instructions were in lieu of flowers donations should be made to the Dublin Public Library or to the Dublin Historical Society.
I know that she said there was some difficulty in getting ahold of family, so I am not sure what protocol is at a time like this. If someone wants to take the lead, I will be happy to follow...

He was of the rare, wise, and helpful breed on the internet, when it is full of those that never learned the "if you don't have something nice to say" lesson. His words were always to bring a smile or the impetus to try something new (or old). I daresay a serving of Diafine on the curb in his memory, but we all know he'd rather have someone using it.

John Stovall:
Cantankerous maybe;
knowledgeable yes;
opinionated definitely;
loved you bet he was.
TPF will not be the same, maybe like; He was not the same after his wife's passing.

Omg, wow, thank you for passing this along. John took my pj class, and he was actually a really nice guy and great photographer. He never really posted his work on here, but I got the chance to see quite a few of his images, and I was very impressed. It must have been hard for him after his wife died. RIP John. I will miss you! I always appreciated your knowledge.

RIP Stovall.
That man authored some of the most interesting links I ever read, most I would never have found without him.

I wonder if there is a Burkett Cemetery in Coleman. There is a Burkett Cemetery in Burkett, Tx in Coleman County. Many of my family members are buried there.
If you have a link to the obituary, funeral home, or family, that would be nice.
My experiences with John were the same as everyone else. He will be missed.

Sad news indeed. From the few posts he had replied to he was helpful, from the many posts he created or commented, it was educational and 'interesting' to say the least.
He'll be missed. RIP. | | | |

I met John several times,a couple where he was actually shooting an event for a local paper, and he was always gracious in real life though he had a dry wit to him even in person. He will sorely be missed here on TPF even by the non-Leicafiles of which he was a lead chearleader.
If you have never seen John in person he was a Large man, I would say over 6'4" and well past 400 lbs and he knew that he needed to lose a few pounds, and had just retired early before his wife passed so he was maybe 65 or 66 years of age.
I traded many personal off board emails with him and he really wanted to get out on the road and shoot more and he had ventured out more in the last few months, one event was the Leica Tour that was in Austin, and I think he was planning on going further afield soon.
So, John YOU WILL BE MISSED!

My experiences with John were the same as everyone else. He will be missed. | All that I can report on is what the lady at the funeral home told me when she called me back. As I mentioned in the previous post, the funeral home is Harrell Funeral home in Dublin

I often wondered if the avatar picture that used to be on his posts was him. That picture reminded me of a wise old grandpa with a lot of knowledge to share. I never had the privilege to meet John. John always had interesting posts that were worth reading to broaden our horizons.
RIP John. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
