TPF Member John Stovall Dead - 06-18-2010, 02:13 PM

Long time TPF member John Stovall died sometime between 11 June and today, June 18. I have no details.

I know John was a source of irritation to many, to many others he was a devoted photographer and a man of prodigious learning and information. To me he was a great friend.

John was likely the best well-read person I've ever met, and that says a lot as I have been a practicing journalist/PJ for nearly 50 years on five continents.

In the 12, 15 years I knew him I never found a subject he could not intelligently discuss.

Again, I have no details of his death, just informing the forum of his passing.

Wow. Thank you for passing along the info and I'm certainly sorry for the loss of your close friend. RIP, John. I never met him, but he was certainly an active member of the forum and his unique perspective on life, literature and what the well equipped photographer should possess will definitely leave a void.

Wow, I'm stunned. I only met him once, but I liked his attitude.

This is stunning! He is one of the members that made TPF what it is. I never did get to meet him, but I think if I did I would have liked him...

In true Stovall style his last post was nothing more than a link, but a mostly interesting one.

He could be a pain in the rear to some, me included, but I think just about everyone knew he was a well versed guy.

When he lost his wife, I knew it hit him hard (as it would anyone... lost my mom 5 years ago). I hope we are able to gather more details as his life has touched just about everyone here.

Go with God.

That's too bad. I'm so sorry to hear that.
It just won't be the same here without John's Leica Commercials.

Rest In Peace John. Hopefully, with your faithful Leica still by your side! :-(
