I've got it now. I already customized the wallpaper vs the lock screen and I've put some of my more unused games in a folder. Haven't multitasked or tried anything else.

The new phones will have double the RAM from what I read recently so multitasking there should be faster. This may be slow on 3Gs. Anyone?

wow...that's a few days earlier than anticipated. I guess I know what I'll be doing when I get home. Too bad I'm still on the 3G for a few more days.

although that's about right, iTunes updated real recently. This usually happens right before an update/upgrade.

I've loaded it on my 3GS. Seems to work nicely. I have Pandora updated and it works in multi-tasking mode. Nice to read mail with music streaming. Doesn't seem to slow it down a great deal. No skips in the music from what I can see. I also like the visuals and new wall paper features. It will take a while to find all the new niggles.

Have fun with the bleeding edge...

it takes a while. I suppose it depends on your computers speed and your internet speed??? Mine took 30 to 40 minutes I'd guess. But I wasn't timing it. It first backed up your phone. Installed the update, installed firmware, reinstalled your apps, reinstalled your video and music, etc. so it took a fair amount of time.

Looks like just the download alone takes about 20-30 minutes.

That depends on your Internet connection speed. Mine certainly didn't take that long. Then again I have 25Mbps FiOS

My son's 3G is stuck in a perpetual update cycle and cannot do a thing with it. We've tried rebooting it, disconnecting then reconnecting it to iTunes, nothing. It's stuck with the progress bar on the screen. Any ideas short of the Apple Store?

Have you tried the reset by holding down both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo screen comes up? It takes around 10 seconds.
