I was at a lecture a couple years back, and a gallery owner mentioned about the increase in Photography as art for a collector. He said that he had the chance to buy some smaller Ansel Adams prints at a show back in the 1950's or 60's for $75 a pop. Today, those same prints are selling for $25k-50k!

This is a little misleading since the Polaroid collection, I posted yesterday a link about the auction and an article about it under the title a Rape of a Photographic Collection, has several MURAL sized prints of some of Ansel's work and it mentions in the article that Sotheby's may see 1 of these every 5 years while this sale includes 15 of them which makes the work even more rare. See Ansel started working with Mr Polaroid back in the late 40's to start this collection of photographs and now the cream of it is being taken away because of the courts.

At least they are taking in more money than expected! Wonder if the Carter is bidding on any of this collection?
