Really sad day - 06-23-2010, 09:42 PM

Today we buried a deputy that I have worked with in various capacities since 1998. I did his background check when he wanted to come over and be a patrol deputy, when I went to CID, he took my old badge number/call sign. He was a great guy, never stressed out, always calm, cool, polite. Always the guy who when things were about to blow, could crack a joke, show a smile and put everything else in perspective. And what makes this so horrible to me, is Andie was 34 years old, had two 10 month old twins, a loving wife and family, a Sheriff's Office that felt he was superb.

Andie died of a massive heart attack at 34 years old. He had quit smoking, lost 25lbs (and he was not fat at all), had been eating right. He had chest pains, went to the hospital, they did some tests, drew blood and sent him home. Thursday, he went back with terrible chest pains, they did no blood work, no tests, and told him they had lost his previous blood work, so he should come back Monday for more blood work. They said "go home, it is "Acid Reflux". He died friday night, just before his very first Fathers day.

We are all in shock, when I found out via text message, I called Dispatch to find out, thinking it had to be one of his pranks. The dispatcher was crying so hard she could barely tell me it was true, Andie was gone. We all held it together through the last week, the viewing last night, all up until the bagpipes started Amazing Grace. Then we pretty much all lost it, because it was true, Andie was gone. Gone at 34 years of age.

Sorry Murph. Nothing I can say will help, but know that from your story you really cared about him and know that this member of your "family" will be missed.

34...that makes it harder...plus he was a good guy. Tough ...hard to make sense of things like this. I will be thinking of you and his family...

Thanks all. D@mn, now his corporal has had a heart attack, and is in the hospital! When does this end?

This is so sad, Murph. My mom told me about it last night... we went to school together as kids and Andie really was a good guy. His family is in our thoughts and prayers, as is his corporal.
