The Karate Kid (2010) - 06-24-2010, 11:38 AM

As a kid I loved watching The Karate Kid. That movie got me in so much trouble with my little brother and my parents. It's all good til someone gets karate chopped in the nose .

I finally saw The Karate Kid. I entered the theater with no expectations and plenty of hesitation. Many reviews were not kind to the 2010 remake of the original 1984 version. I was pleasantly surprised! For the most part the remake follows the original story line beat-for-beat. Of course there are some obvious changes. It’s set in China instead of SoCal. Mr. Miyagi is Mr. Han. Daniel Larusso is Dre Parker. Dre learns Kung Fu instead of Karate.

I thought the changes were refreshing and much needed to keep up with today's culture. Other changes made were Dre's training techniques and his "love" interest . The one aspect that surprised me was Jackie Chan's performance. We all know him in America as the comedic action star with a lovable personality. This role he is a troubled soul with a terrible burden slowly healed through Dre. He’s really, really good. But there is some old Jackie too.

Overall in my opinion, The Karate Kid (2010) is a worthy remake/update of the classic Karate Kid (1984). I know some die hard fans are going to hate.

I saw this movie this weekend and enjoyed it a lot. The original was just a touch before my time so I wasn't concerned at how well it followed the story line and just went to enjoy a movie. I thought it was well made, Jayden Smith was endearing and I really liked Jackie Chan in the more serious role (he pulled it off well).

Overall, fun movie, good fighting scenes, and good acting.

i agree with you on mostly everything, it was a great remake ... they did a great job of following the original storyline while still making it originally their own!

the only gripe that I had with it, is the fact that he learns Kung Fu ... shouldnt it have been called The Kung Fu Kid?!?!?! The word "Karate" was never even mentioned in the entire movie!

I went to see it last night - and I too enjoyed it. I was really impressed with Jayden Smith. The young man has a lot of talent as an actor. Wonder where he got that talent, eh?

Marketing. Trying to connect it with the original in order to reach across the age groups. That's my thought on it anyway.

I really liked it too. I wanted to see it, because I am a huge Chan fan, but had heard horrible things about it. I though it was sweet, touching and fun at the same time. I actually like it better than the first Karate Kid! Karate Kid 2 is still my top fav, but more I think because I was a young girl and had a crush on Danielson!

We saw it and thought it was nicely done. Right before it we saw Iron Man II and my daughters like KK better... go figure.

Saw it with Tori a couple weeks ago and loved it. She's watched all the originals - I routinely torture her by making her watch movies that I enjoyed.... ;-) Amazingly enough, despite the lack of CGI and such - she seems to enjoy them.... ;-)

I thought it was a great remake....

At some point in the movie did someone "sweep the leg?" If not, I'm not interested... :D
