Question The WOW factor... - 06-27-2010, 01:56 PM

Does the 'wow' factor fade in other genres of photography as well?

For instance, wedding photographers. I'm sure you look at other wedding photographers stuff quite often dont you? Do you ever feel like if you've seen one, you've seen them all? And therefore it takes a lot to get you to say WOW!

Concerning wedding photography, that concept comes straight from the pit of hell. Same as trying to apply that to...well...nevermind.

I'm not sure there is any genre of photography where that thought would be valid. There are probably people who will disagree with me, that's their right. They have the right to be wrong.

Wow from the POV of a fellow photog? or Wow from the POV of a paying client.

If you've meant a a fellow photog then yes, if you've meant as a client, No.

The general public have a hard time discerning what is good and not. If they see some vignette, some flare, some smoothie skinny and some selective coloring that would WOW them alot hehehe.

As a fellow photog? For instance... if all you shoot is brides, do you ever get to the point where you're just not "wow'd" anymore? Even if the photograph is from some mondo-famous, everyone knows them, name posted everywhere, photographer? You ever think.... "eh' its just another bridal potrait."

I used to get wow'd when I didn't know about actions and presets. I always wondered how photogs would do that texture when they shot the frame, till I realized they spent hours and hours applying actions and presets hehehe.

I know with film we used to literally pencil in the special fx but that didn't take hours.

Today, I'm more wowed (in a negative way) when a photog charges so much and yet their photos lack any story and more onto post-processing.

I know what your saying, I've been really thinking hard about starting a pet photography business and have doing a ton of research including looking at others work locally and nationally and it's all really starting to blend together.

I try to be careful with my thinking that way though since it is mostly really quality work and I'm sure their clients loved the way they turned out (isn't that what counts). But yes to answer the question, it takes a really special photo (or animal) to make me say wow.

BTW it's late and if none of that made sense I'll fix it in the morning.
