Interesting email I received - 06-28-2010, 02:16 PM

I've been asked before if I offered Shoot n Burn or Shoot N Download type sessions but I've never been asked to Shoot N Gimme My Card Back.

Anyone ever received an email like this the below?

Wanted to see if this was possible, and what it would cost.
I want to hire a photographer with a 1DMkII or newer (or Nikon's equivalent) to shoot me at a volleyball tournament for approx. 4-6 hours. I want to have them use my 32G compact flash, and just fill it up and then give it to me at the end of the time. No editing or anything necessary.
The tournament would be in Galveston.

Yeah, I had one. Their budget wasn't the biggest.

I'll tell him my camera is stuck in RAW. Anyone interested in this job?

Sounds like the client is wanting photos of themselves vs the tournament. If so, that's a lot of photos in jpg for a person

and, will you be given proper/decent room to shoot? As a newspaper photog, I was given full access, as long as I didn't interfere with the refs or players. However, I don't think some random guy will get the same access, just because he's being paid by one of the players to be there...

4-6 hours of shooting and I hand over full rights? I'd start at $1.5k-2k, depending on how much I liked the person.

I'd expect full access.
I'm not interested in the "photo rights" since one volleyball player isn't something I'd be marketing.
minimum $125/hr plus expenses. (parking, admission, lunch, travel)

I've already replied declining the offer. I told him we do not sell digital negatives.

Most likely I would be shooting from the stands. Just a guess.

People can ASK but it doesn't mean that we HAVE to DO IT! The customer isn't your client until they hire you and give you a retainer!

Sounds like they want someone to shoot their TEAM for the tourney.

I'll do it. I'll just take all kinds of random pictures of people in the crowd and stuff though.

Put it on high speed continuous drive mode and AI servo focus mode and hold the shutter button down. I'm guessing about 50 RAW shots per minute with a decent card at 8 MB per shot. Should fill the card in an hour and a half.

It's scary that we think mischievously alike.
