Crept out by potential client? - 06-28-2010, 03:02 PM

I always hear about photographers possibly creeping out a client but I just had a potential client who actually crept me out to the point where I politely declined the offer.

I won't get into the details but it was a young guy (early 20s). He said that that he had joined the military and was about to go overseas and that he wanted pictures done in an intimate setting that that showed his inner self. Then he went into the lengthy details of what he wanted (no sexual overtones) and he started to sound a bit creepy.

Just wondering if anything like this has ever happened to anyone else?

Was what he wanted something similar to this episode?

YouTube - Seinfeld Elaine Benes

I thought I'd seen all of the episodes but I don't remember seeing this one.

You gotta love Elaine.

No I never actually met the guy, it was just the last email he sent describing how he envisioned the shoot.

If it was a woman describing the same shoot would you feel "crept out"?

George is too funny...

Elaine's timing is just perfect.

Sorry about your situation, at least it wasn't in a face to face.....

I don't view them the same so it's hard, if not impossible, for me to imagine how I would view it if a woman said the same things in an email. I think I stated that it wasn't sexual so I'm not sure what being a woman would have had to do with anything.

Yeah, this just looks odd to me. I know that creep is slang for someone annoying or repulsing you, but I never thought of using its past tense form in the same way. "Crept out" sounds more like they stealthily crawled out, so I was expecting a story of a client who snuck up on you!

Sorry for the confusion. After all of these years I still have a slight fascination for words. I majored in journalism and wrote for a couple of small newspapers out of college and it was always a challenge to say the same things in different ways. :) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
