Got a buddy going on a cruise in a couple of months and he asked what camera gear I would recommend him taking. He's got a DSLR with a few zooms (some wide; some long). Heck, I've never been on a cruise before so I had no idea what to tell him, so I thought I'd throw it out here. Thoughts?

When I went on mine I had a Sony A300, I took my 18-70 and my 50mm 1.7.

I used the 18-70 the most, but in the end found myself not taking that many pictures at all. I just enjoyed the cruise.

My wife and I have cruised many times......I have found that an all purpose lens like the 18-200 is the perfect lens for all the things one runs into during the trip.
