Can I synch more than one iPhone? - 07-01-2010, 08:30 AM

My son's laptop died and he needs to back his iPhone up and update the software. Can I do that with my iTunes without hosing up my backup?

You can sync many iPhones to a single computer and iTunes account. But you will lose what's on his iPhone when you sync it to a new computer. It's a one to many operation only in one direction. Each iPhone can only sync to a single computer.

Your backup for your iPhone will not be harmed.

I'm not sure if it'll work if you create a new user profile in your OS, then launch itunes under that account. This may work. I haven't tried this myself.

I can sync to both my home PC and my laptop with my iPhone. I have MS Office on my laptop, but do not have it on my home PC, so I can sync the phone with my outlook on the laptop, and turn off the music sync and photos for the laptop sync.

It does fine and works flawlessly.

For the multiple phone situation, you may want to excercise caution when syncing his phone to your computer as you very well may end up adding all of his contacts to your computer though.

Yeah... I went with plan Z. I use my Mac(s) for my iPhone and I'll let him synch his to my PC... some of his women are pretty hot... I might want those numbers

I thought the newer versions of iTunes allowed for multipe accounts and playlists for different iPods on the same machines. Do a Google search against, "itunes multiple accounts on one computer". You will come up with some possible answers to your question.

In that case -- make sure to have him manually back up all of his saved photos from text messages to a folder you can peruse later!

This is actually itunes fix for me when I could not access the store, it worked for that but now I have to watch and choose when booting up. No more boot and run.

Yes, you can sync as many iPhone to you computer at you need. The iPhone limits the number of trusted computers to five (5). That is one iPhone can be synced to as many as 5 computers before you need to decide which one you need to remove from your list of trusted computers.
