I bought a convection oven from QVC last year, and business cards from from Vistaprint a few months ago. Now, I get regular e-mails from both of them, promoting all their other sales. Vistaprint sends me an e-mail every-other day or so; QVC is once or twice a week.

Hello Movingex,
I am sorry you are bothered by the products we offer. If you would like to contact me directly I can remove you off of our list. Our goal is not to annoy people.
Also, I cannot take credit for the products we create. We have a full time staff of 5 graphic artists, 2 writers and one social media expert that help with the design and creation of these products. My only goal is to create really affordable tools to help photographers succeed. Marketing is my passion and I love sharing our successful campaigns.
I am a full time working photographer. I have been at this for 22 years and I have learned a lot in the process. Yes, I do make money with these product sales, but we have hundred of students that make money using what we design. So I don't feel to bad.
Like I said, I do not want to annoy people, just help the ones that want me to.
Just send and e-mail to sandy@sandypuc.com and we will remove you off of our list.
Wishing you the best,
Sandy Puc | | | |

Hmmmm... I read the initial comment as a compliment considering how bad many of us are at marketing ourselves...
Guess I was wrong. | | | |

Sandy Puc | You and your team are obviously reaping the benefits of your many years of labor. Marketing/Selling is a necessity in any successful business. I admire people who have the ability to accomplish what you have, but at the same time just like many others, I am equally annoyed at what sometimes seems to be just and onslaught of materials/services being sold and marketed when you sign up for one thing in particular. So I guess it's the proverbial double-edge sword sometimes for me.
Personally, I am very lacking in the areas of marketing and selling. So when I say I wish I had those skills, I'm not joking or being sarcastic. I don't like selling but I know it is simply a necessity. This is the area that I am focusing most on right now, trying to figure out how to market and sell.

At least TPF has a new and esteemed member as a result of the post (no sarcasm intended).

She is a well oiled marketing machine, and I am taking notes! If you take how she markets to us and apply it to our clients, how can we fail? Besides she has some killer marketing "stuff".
She is not the only one that is skilled in that area. Sarah Petty's Joy of Marketing and Jed and Vicki Taufer- VGallery, Charles Lewis, Fundy SOS just to name a few. I love the "junk" mail. I learn alot from those. I have some that I opted out of cause it was just that junk, but not those that I listed. All great learning material.

Jeffrey, if you are truly wanting to learn about selling and marketing you should look at everything that comes your way. Sandy is an excellent example and the cards you have are examples of selling to photographers.
I look at ad pieces all the time and try to pull apart the components that are making it function well. You can also find weak ones and examine them to see why they are ineffective.

You obviously have no idea what all comes my way. If I looked at all of the stuff I get in emails I wouldn't have time for anything.
I'm joining the Dallas PPA at the next meeting as a first step to more hands on resources. My biggest obstacle is overcoming the fact that I am not a people person and finding ways to make things work anyway.

Yeah, me neither. And I hate junk mail. At the same time, stuff that is well done that catches your attention is worth looking at. You may not know this, but I have two businesses on top of my home, so I get pelted with more ad pieces than most people have ever seen. And its not once a year or for a tour or a new product...its every season, all the time. I know what youre talking about. And its easy to see an ad that stands out. Sandy's stand out. Join the PPA, they'll help you get started. :o)
