Attempt at a Stovall Tribute Photo - 07-12-2010, 11:00 AM

As some of you may know after John's death I finally got off my behind and decided to try a Leica. My friend's dad was incredible kind in loaning my his Leica M6 along with a 50mm Summilux and 35mm Summicron. I shot through a roll of Kodak ISO400 B&W film and got one result I feel fitting for John.

This is uncropped, straight from the camera, and it makes more sense if you have seen his roadkill gallery.

C&C welcomed.

I like the tones you got. B&W is harder to reproduce online than you'd think...

Is it that bad?

Jason, I shot two rolls of B&W and loved teh results. Just trying to get better scans on my own.

depth of field is nice, too! I'm not a fan of the actual composition or subject matter, but your other technical aspects are great!

Just sayin.

Excellant tribute post... I'd crop the image to just the bird and the surrounding blackness

Kent, yeah I wasn't expecting much in that regard, but it seemed fitting for him. I saw it without my camera and thought of him, and it was there when I came back. My very next time past that trash can, which is usually 4 times a day, it was gone.

Thanks Jason and Stephen. I did shoot a lot of photos of my 19 month old too. That photo is out of place for the rest of the roll.

I kind of prefer this crop... the extended height on top creates a sort of "looking up towards the light" feel for me. Maybe it's the moment of death in the image...

I agree, Jason. I was also trying to be slightly inconspicuous while shooting it, so I was a little further away than I should have been. Nice crop!

I like to shoot wider and crop in. You can always crop in, but you can't always add more (photoshop makes it slightly more possible these days, but you get the idea)...
