I guess it wasnt meant to be , Photographing 40 plus kids a day for the last 3 years . I had a few to many complaints about no expressions from people the past 8 weeks
, Time to move on I guess , I filed for Unemployment for the 1st time ever on friday . I know I was a decent photographer , but other people saw different . 49 years old and thinking about going back to School . Guys Im kinda bummed out right now

I was never in a controled enviorment , always chaotic . I have the stuff to do it on my own . I may venture into that . But I have to pay bills first

Do whatever it takes to pay the bills, for now. Look for what you want, but be ready to grab something that appears unexpectedly.

It's a sign. Put your thinking cap on, do a little creative marketing, use your contacts, brush up your equipment, and start your business. I look forward to the day I'm forced to make the jump to full time. I can only guess that it hasn't happened yet because I still have more to learn about both the art, and the business. Things happen for a reason.

The best thing that ever happened to me was getting fired from a job in the 80's. In fact I thanked the guy that fired me when I saw him last month! That was the push I needed to completely change my life.

If you had a few too many complaints, maybe it's time to take a workshop in the area you received complaints about? Then you'll be stronger in that area if/when you do start up your own venture. I am not perfect and sometimes receive negative criticism. I just try to evaluate the situation and improve myself. Since photography is such a subjective art form, it is important to take any criticism without taking it too personally. Don't worry... the job transition may have been for the best, anyway. Sorry to hear about it, though.

That's the trick, right there. None of us is perfect, I know I am not even close to the vicinity of the area on the continent of perfect. But that just makes me work harder to get there, one flaw fixed at a time.

Take this as a sign, improve your flaws and get better. Do what you can to feed your family for now with an eye towards what can also make you happy.

Good luck!

Allan

I'm sorry that you lost your job, and I wish you well.

I lost my job in March. Now, I'm working part-time for 2 companies. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do. I'm preparing to load up on some trades classes that will help me earn some certifications and brush up my skills. That should make me much more competitive and confident.

Sorry to hear that but as some have said it could be the best thing for you.

I got fired from the 3rd job I had here in Houston and it caused me to decide to eventually go out on my own.

I had one other job after that and when I finally had enough I told them to take their job and shove it. Haven't looked back since and I've had my own businesses (not photography) for 17 years now.

Hang in there and plan for going out on your own if that's what you want to do. It's not always easy and not everyone is cut out for it but if it's going to happen it will.
