Went to Wells Fargo and the only way they will cover equipment is if you have their homeowners coverage too. Was then told that they aren't issuing any homeowners policies to anyone living in the 77*** zip code, which is all of Houston and surrounding areas, because of high risk. Weird??

if you're not a pro and attaching a personal articles rider, i would have the highest deductible possible. i had a computer and a few other things stolen from my house a few years back. i turned it into insurance. been paying inflated homeowners premiums for it ever since. i would have been far better off to swallow the $1500 pill....

Dang, that stinks. I've heard rumors of this, but have never seen it for myself. How did you confirm that the premiums were inflated for that reason?

the wife does the shopping for insurance. she gave all her information. got quote. called other people. made decision, called back, gave all my information as well, lady typed on the keyboard, "oh, looks like your husband had a claim x years ago, the premium will increase by $xxxx.xx." one year's increase in premium about covers the payout...

self insurance is best.

Try here:

Wells Fargo of California Insurance Services, Inc.
15303 Ventura Boulevard, 7th Floor
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
Phone: 818-464-9300
Fax: 818-464-9398

https://wfis.wellsfargo.com/LBUs/WFI...s/default.aspx

Got the paper work done today! Took 4 emails and one fax.

$250/yr min premium
Rate is $0.8 per $100, that's up to $31,250
$500 deductible
Replacement cost
North America coverage. $13 more for worldwide.

Just gave them an inventory list of my stuff: make, model, serial number, and replacement cost of item. That's it.

Now, I've got to go buy more gears to make the $31K mark!

FYI, photo.net also has an insurance ploicy that I think is decent, even with liability, however it covers US/CAN ONLY. They will not do international. Site is http://photo.net/learn/insurance
