Scanning help - 07-24-2010, 09:29 AM

Going to show my film ignorance.

I got married 13 years ago and the photographer is closing up shop, and has sold us the photos (negatives) from our wedding and given us the rights to the photos. I want to scan them for the wife.

I saw Kodak PMC 6059 on a negative. What film size is this?

Is there a scanner out there that will scan this film?

Thanks in advance.

If its bigger than 35mm and its on a roll, its going to be 120.

Thats about all thats been made for a while.

Yes there are lots of scanners for it.

Look for one that says it does Medium Format. MF for short.

There were several formats that used 120. IE 654, 6X6, 6X7 ect.

645 and 6X6 were more common for weddings.

I have a Nikon Coolscan 8000 that will scan medium format negatives. I don't use it often, but don't really want to sell it. I could rent it to you for a couple of weeks or so. It pretty much is a one negative at a time kind of job.

Kodak is the brand, PMC-6059 is from their pro line of films and represents their color neg 100iso film. None of this will tell us the actual film size, that I am aware. It could be 35mm or 120, as someone pointed out above.

Have you thought about pricing the cost of scanning at Wolf/Ritz or maybe a local pro lab?

my canoscan 8600 does a decent job with medium format and smaller. I think that is about as cheap as you can get for a medium format film based scanner. As I said, decent -- but not stellar.

If the film is about the width of an iphone, then it is medium format.

The Coolscan that Don spoke of would be your best value (to rent for a period of time) especially if you only intend to do this single batch of files

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!
