Hmm, I'm kind of cynical...Here's my conspiracy theory: The maker of the app, Covia Labs could have paid an individual to act as a thief, thus causing media attention when he was apprehended all thanks to the genius app that is coming out.
Hypothetically, what kind of time will a first-time offender realistically face for stealing a phone? Probably a slap on the wrist.

I could be wrong, but what are the odds that of all the iPhone users out there, this one guy happens to steal this particular iPhone with this particular app in development?

Didn't some ham's stolen car get found quickly a few years ago because his APRS transmitter was still running?

I agree, either it's a huge coincidence or they are full of it.
