Theres oil that seeps from the ground naturally all the time. Ask any geologist or mud man and they'll tell you the same.

Nor was the hole that its coming out of.

Was just stating the environment can handle it.

It'll also be much easier to fix since it isn't in 5,000 ft. of water.

That is probably in water less than 30 ft deep, may be why the tug hit it (going where it shouldn't have), and can be fixed in less then 24 hours by a crew (biggest delay is getting the crew to the site with the proper equipment). Since it is spewing oil only 20 ft above the waters surface it isn't under a great amount of pressure so not a huge amount is being ejected from the well per hour so clean up will be rather easy.

Maybe one day people will change their thought processes about the environment. Fish, Oysters, Birds, cant handle it and neither can we. Do you want your family drinking and eating oil?

There is an investigation if the well was properly marked by a lighted tower and if it was why did the barge hit it. Should be repaired today.

Just saying that a Laissez-fair attitude about a disaster of this magnitude is just wrong. Another spill just adds insult to injury. This directly impacts lots of family's, cities, parishes along the coast that are still recovering from the previous disaster. Its easy to put blinders on and say its someone else s problem. The coast of Alaska continues to feel the effects of the Exon Valdez 20 years ago.
Definitely not fatalistic on my part but empathetic to those who are affected. Surely there are family's or family members of this forum that are affected. Not so far from home right?

There are choices that we can make to change future events. Promotion of safer techniques for drilling. Electing officials that are environmentally cautious. Election of city officials that promote passage of green technology ordinances that allow for solar, wind power. This will help decrease the demand for oil. Purchasing green technology when we can. etc. Changing your electric provider to one that utilizes solar and wind power.

well it looks like that it hasn't been capped yet and they are in no huge rush to do so, have boomed the area, so not sure what is going on.

Don't forget the pipeline break in Michigan that dumped about 25,000 barrels of crude into a river.

But don't forget what the media learned fairly early on during the mess in the Gulf. It sounds much more dramatic if you stop reporting it by barrels and start refering to gallons. So that would be 1,050,000 of gallons into the river in Michigan.

Just something I observed earlier on in the crisis was it all the sudden stopped getting reported as barrels per day to gallons. Not sure why they changed other than people don't normally understand what a barrel is, but put it into gallons and they seem to get it. That and it does sound more dramatic, not to say that the media (all media) isn't into the drama stories.

We have to have something to look to to prove the sky is falling. After the large leak the media saw how little a story it was since oil was breaking up and being torn down by bacteria and was taking care of itself so they have to look for something else... and there are some who seem to have bought into it.
