iPod Touch - 07-30-2010, 12:38 PM

Anyone have one of these things? My youngest daughter wants an iPod, so we are going to get her one of these since she loves my wife's iPhone. I also plan on getting her a $50 iTunes card with it. Anyone out there have one, and use it for games and stuff? It looks like it can also get email, and send texts. Just not a phone.

Is an 8 gb one big enough for a kid, or do we need to find some extra cash for the 32 gb one? Never having done this before, I don't know how much memory I should have on these. Can you expand the memory via SD cards?

I have one, it's great. I use it more for all the other things than listening to music, although that was the original intention. I use it for email, web surfing, music, and quick games when I'm waiting for something or other. Some days I don't need to turn on my computer at all when I go home because I just use the Ipod Touch.

I have the 8gb version, it's certainly big enough for me, although I don't have libraries upon libraries of music. It just depends on how much music your daughter has or listens to, because that's the primary reason for using up memory. Most apps, including games, really don't take up that much memory at all. I'm also pretty sure you can't expand on the memory space with any external media like SD or CF cards. I'm positive there aren't any built-in slots, and I don't think (or at least I haven't heard of) there's anything you can purchase to plug in via power/usb adapter.

My daughter has one and she loves it. Once she starts loading movies, videos, and games on it... it will fill-up pretty quick. Good news is you can always keep the movies and other big files in iTunes and change out which ones are actually on the iPod.

PS... the digital copies that come with many of the Blu Ray movies are pretty cool.

I've got a like new...used a week and realized I'd be happier with an Iphone...PM me if you would like to know more...

there is no expansion with SD cards what is on board is what is on board. If you have wifi at house then you have internet access with it.

You can use use the itunes account you already have....main thing is to set itunes (inside software) to not automatically sync...even though when youset it up that way for some reason it gets reset.

She really wants one, and so since her grades were the best she ever had last year, I want to encourage her to keep working at it, so she gets a reward of the iPod. Some of these singers she wants like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, etc, are new to me, but she found them on Disney channel, so they must be at least innocuous for a tweener. Her cousins have iPod Touches, and so really got fired up watching theirs. Plus it will be a good thing in the car on trips I suspect.

Got it, and wow, blew through a $50 iTunes card in NO TIME AT ALL loading stuff for the kid. Some great educational apps pretending to be games. Lots of free stuff, and songs for her. Thanks all.

What's the battery life like with the iTouch? I'm thinking about selling or trading my iPhone 3G for an iTouch.

Both my kids have one. They are great. They watch videos, listen to music and have a ton of games. Battery life seems to be really good, a little less if watching a lot of videos. Great for traveling easy to carry around.

I have a 64gb and love it. Only problem I have is when I check my email, I get several that say (No Sender) and I can't delete them. Just have music, photos, books, and a few podcasts. I thought I'd need more room for the books, but I have plenty of space for more!!

Uhhhhhh... it's obvious that you've never had one! 32 gigs will be the ONLY way to go!

She is completely in the dark, and I have already spent close to $100 on iTunes putting music and stuff on it for her. I just hope she appreciates it. Miley Cyrus, Cheetah Girls, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, etc. WOW. This thing is a computer in most ways.

You know you can just rip her existing CDs to iTunes and then put them on the iPod, right?
