El Cheapo Shelves (for those interested) - 07-30-2010, 10:53 PM

My 13 year old needed her room redone...badly... she had a drumset coming, and between her L shaped desk, full sized futon, book shelf and a dresser...it was not going to fit...

So...

She was gone to Louisiana for part of the summer...and my wonderful friend Icee helped me out with this project... she mainly painted... lol... but painting counts... especially when you know she HATES to paint...

Anyway, total cost:

$100.74 for the supplies to build the shelves, and the wall 'boards' (one of them is a 2x2 sheet metal wrapped in fabric...the other is a 4x8 write on/wipe off board)

$75 for a can of primer...2 cans of Antique White Satin Paint

I ended up deciding to put a trim on the front - because I was worried she might hit/nick the board (MDF) and MDF board is much safer if it's 'coated'... ended up really 'finishing' the built in shelves...

I used a you tube video for most the info... it's a basic shelving idea... but you can see it'll really turn out well with an extra bit of effort:

Sorry for the crappy photos...Iphone pics to send to husband.
