I'll be heading to Rocky Mount, NC for a few days in September for work. I was wondering if anyone knew of some locations that would be good opportunities for photos. I don't mind a little bit of driving either.

I just don't have a clue what's in that area. Thanks for any help.

Nags Head and the Outer Banks. Lighthouse and all the weatherworn houses on the beaches.. Just head East on 64 until you get to the ocean.

I was going to say the Outer Banks, too. My husband was born in Rocky Mount and grew up in Plymouth. Not a whole lot to see right around there, but the coast is not far off. Take the Outer Banks Rd. south from Nags Head and you eventually run in to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest in the nation, which was moved inland a few years ago because of the encroaching sea. There's a visitor's center, too. You'll go through a couple of small towns on the way to the lighthouse. North of where 64 meets the ocean is Roanoke Island and Kitty Hawk. There's gorgeous scenery all along the Outer Banks and the Sounds. You won't lack for something to photograph, the area is so rich in history, and beautiful.

#1 on the Outer Banks. Also if you have the time hit some backroads and drive, there are a lot of old tobacco barns and such around there.

I was in that area for a wedding in December. It all depends on what you want to shoot. I drove from where we were staying in Greenville to Rocky Mount itself just to shoot in downtown one morning. The old part of town is decent sized; has a rail station warehouse area. Find Church St. (it actually has a bunch of churches) and wander around from there. The masonic lodge there is interesting too. It got to the area before daylight on a Saturday to cut down on traffic and people.

The area is full of golf courses, the town of Southern Pines is nearby and has a beautiful downtown area. Raeford is another small town with quaint central part. The North Carolina Horse park is located between Raeford and Southern Pines. September is prime Hurricane season around the area so be watchful of upcoming storms. If you can get down to Wilmington there is the USS North Carolina battleship and again the downtown has been used in lots of movies, many of Stephen Kings movies were shot there.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll print them out and see what I have time for.
