How do I request a local photowalk - 08-05-2010, 10:28 AM

No clue where to ask this... How and where do I request a photowalk in my area? I really have no clue as to what they are, except walking around and taking pictures. I'm new to photography and really want to try some.
I'm in the Deer Park area, but free most evenings and Saturdays. Will have kids in tow (they are older and will bring their point and shoots)
The lost Kathy... LOL

Didn't know there were both, so I'd have to say..... YES! I'm new so I take hundreds of shots just learning. I watch what others do. I do tell people I'm new (like they can't guess) and I do not oppose suggestions. When shooting with others, I tend to back off and let those in the know shoot first, then take my turn.

You might also try searching on meetup.com for a photography group in your area. I joined the Houston one and they organize some nice photowalks.

Or just post in the Houston area here on TPF something like "Who wants to get together for a Photowalk on XXXX at YYY?"

That's how most of them have started out.

We've had walks at the Zoo, San Jac, lots of them Downtown, Galveston, the museum of Natural Science, even a road trip to San Antonio.

Kathy, it is really easy, Pick a time pick a location and post it in the houston events section. Just make sure you have a meeting location like the park bench on the corner of 5th and walnut. That is it. Then go and meet other photographers!

Kathy, there are a couple of photo clubs that meet monthly in the area and may have group shoots. Bay area photo club and baytown photo club.

That is why I posted the link, you could email that person and ask her how she managed to get all that together and then go from there.

Sorry should have posted more info on that than just the link.

Good luck

I know of a trail in La Porte I'd like to do. I've only walked part of the trail before. As soon as I get a chance to walk the entire part and include the little extras I know of, I'll post one. *sigh* Should be a fun one for nature lovers as those who love history!

+1 for meetup.com. I've been to some pretty cool photo events that I found by searching for "photography" in my area on meetup.com.

Kathy, you're not all that far from Clear Lake, so you might want to contact these folks:

Bay Area Photo Club | Serving photographers in the Houston/Galveston Bay Area

They're an active group, and have regular field trips. Field trips, photo walks, same difference.

As for a Houston-area photo walk, if it's more or less centrally located, I'm in. There, see how easy that was?

Thanks Michael. Me and the kids are joining the Nature Photo Club at Jesse Jones park. I've already committed to helping with this club, so I need to see when that will be. I think it will be on Tuesdays... Once I get our schedule, I'll definitely check this out! Now, if you will excuse me, I know another homeschooler looking for a photo club in that area. :-D
