New Braunfels? - 08-08-2010, 01:59 PM

I'll be heading to New Braunfels for a mini vacation this week. I've been there before and camped on the Guadalupe, been to Gruene and ate at the Grist Mill, and been up to Canyon Lake. I've been to the public urinal (schlitterwhatever) too.

Any other suggestions for capturing some nice images?

I'm not much of an outdoorsy person, but the family is and they are no doubt going to drag me out, so I might as well have fun with it.

You could go underground where it's cool. To the cave.

I just got home from there my husband and I did a quick turn around 24 hour kid free mini vacation. . . went to Gruene Hall for a concert Friday night, got up at 8 am and went and floated the river, went for lunch at Gristmill, and shopped for about a hour and headed home. . . we were gone a total of 23 hours and 58 minutes! It was awesome!!!

Truly is my favorite place on earth to date; and I've travelled A LOT!

We always go to the Grist Mill.... but I've never caught a concert at Greune hall though. We have a condo rented on the Comal for the entire weekend directly across from the park were you put your tubes in I think.

If you like good authentic German food go to the downtown circle off of San Antonio street and find The Friesenhause. Good stuff there that others just can't compare to unless you get invited in by one of the locals for home cookin. It's just off of W. San Antonio street and and S. Castell Ave.

There's also a really good burger joint that's near the corner of Hwy 46(N. Loop 337 part) and IH 35 called TJ's burngers.

Do Gruene hall for starters: weekends they have bands during the day, (and a "gospel brunch" on Sundays) too: It's a lot less crowded and a lot less DARK: some good stuff in there...
Lot of good stuff on MANY locations up and down both rivers: Guad and Comal...

Or just sit back in the trees with a 600mm and do the same thing. At least until the cops show up.

Trust me, the temperature of the water will be the most refreshing experience of your trip. We're slated to be in the low to mid 100's for the next couple of weeks, enjoy the cool. But for real, it's not miserable or freezing, it's actually quite pleasant. The best days to go are M-Th.
