WOW! I'm speechless this morning.

I just booked three sessions in an hour.

Photography event to aid animal shelter | Denton Record Chronicle | News for Denton County, Texas | Local News

For the last year I have attentively watched marketing speeches by other photographers, I have picked 'old pros' brains any chance I could, I've read any article I could get my hands on, asked questions incessantly to anyone who might answer, and done my best to anchor this pet thing to the ground and start building. For the last few weeks I have been networking with the Animal Shelter, area veterinarians, and other pet business owners, and the buzz thats been created has simply amazed me. I'm not anywhere near my own goal and finish line, but its amazing to see hard work, learning, and effort start to pay off.

I hope you raise a lot of money for the cause. Be sure to post some of images from these sessions.

Congrats man!! What a way to get out there and also do some good while you are at it.

If I still lived up north, I definitely would have come by and added to the cause with my dogs.

Wow, that's awesome Chris. If I thought my birdy could behave on a shoot I think I might take one of your sessions. I hope you have great success.

That's awesome, Chris! BTW, never reach the finish line... doing so means you haven't expanded your horizons and set new goals!

Thanks y'all.

At first I was going to do the typical 'bring a bag of food, get a discounted session fee' thing, but after contacting the shelter they said they needed financial donations for the medical fund more than anything. After some thinking, this is what I came up with, and its taken off like wildfire. I only have a couple of sessions left before I start backfilling into Thursday.

And I have had a lot of people ask about print packages, wall collages etc, so hopefully I'll see some residual from that as well. I've joined forced with a few other pet businesses in the Denton area and we've come up with a 'packet' that contains TMM discounts for future sessions, print coupons, and discount cards from all the other businesses. I've paid a lot of attention to other photographers over the months, and if you were to visit the studio on the day of the shoot(s) you'd notice a lot of familiarity. I've taken bits and pieces of knowledge from here and there and made it my own.

I never would have thought that I'd be at this point, with my pet photography, this soon. So all of you fellow newbies, pay attention to Thomas' lectures, Don's suggestions, Brad's exercises, and all the other 'old pros' around here; they really do know what they are talking about.

Meanwhile back at the ranch... I've got to start figuring out my next marketing move. Maybe a photo book like the suggestion that Janice gave me a while back.
