Anybody know of any good shops in houston area?
Looking to buy a 9mm.
Not really set on a certain brand or model so I am looking for a place with a nice selection in the shop to compare. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

I agree with John.... Best bet for comparative shopping or at least being able to feel how the pistol feels in your hands is go to the gun show..

If you have narrowed down which model and features you want, call around to different shops to see if they have a rental you can try.

I actually have a Springfield XD 9mm that I wanted to sell.
Let me know after you look around some and get a feel for what you're looking for. Springfield XD's are most similar to a Glock
It's practically new with only a couple hundred rounds through and not a scratch on it, and it'll be a lot less than a new one.
let me know | | | |

There were a couple pawn shops I used to always visit when I was down there to shoot weddings. The booking company I use doesn't give me any Houston weddings anymore, so I haven't been in a couple years. That's too long for me to remember their names. However, they always had some good stuff in both handguns and rifles.

As was said, Gander Mtn is a good place to check out pistols. They have had good pricing in the past but I noticed some have gone up. Carters and Collectors are good places to go and look-feel but their prices are usually a little high.
The gun shows can be a source of good deals from time to time especially on common pistols like the Glock and Springfield.
Buying used is usually a good thing. I've found most people that sell firearms are pretty honest and you usually get what is advertised. There's also the part of not having to fill out paperwork.
Do your shopping before buying. There are plenty of sources on the Internet to check out and firearms can be shipped with certain restrictions.

Collectors is awesome. My Dad hates me for showing him that shop - he stops in and makes a purchase about once a month now!
Also there's Pruitt's place up off 290 & Huffmeister. Fun people there and real friendly and helpful. Houston Gun Dealer & Sales | Gun Training and CHL Classes

Definitely shop around first. The prices in the local shops are generally outrageous. Collector's seems to smoke a special kind of crack where prices are concerned, but they can often be talked down into just "nuts" range.
Watch for the weekend sales and whatnot at Academy and places like that. Sometimes they actually do run very good deals. Supplies dry up fast on the desirable firearms in such cases, but it's certainly worth looking at. Lucky for me the safe is full and there aren't really any roles I feel the need to fill anymore.
