Dropbox or Zumodrive - 08-18-2010, 11:58 AM

Which one are you using and why. I am going to buy more storage and just wondered what people like better. I know dropbox is sortof the standard, but zumodrive seems to be gaining popularity...

I use dropbox to support 1Password. Works well for me. YMMV.

+1 on the use for 1Password

I also use it for time-critical jobs that I may need access to when working on the road. If I start a project and I know it could need to be accessed anytime before the deadline I work on it via in the Dropbox folder and then it's always updated and ready to go at a moments notice. Case in point was last week I had a family emergency that took me to Iowa. I have three large graphics projects going and all I had to do was grab my laptop and run out the door because I knew they were in the Dropbox folder. Saved me from having to try to remember or copy as I was grabbing my suitcase. And when I reached Iowa I was able to work on them from the hospital. That really sold me and I purchased more space to cover more of my "In Work" projects.

I also Dropbox client contracts and client worksheets so I have them available anywhere from my desktop to my laptop to my iPhone and iPad. It's great not having to worry about syncing as it is automatic and immediate. I have been a .Mac user for a long time and I like iDisk, which does similar stuff, but Dropbox is much better IMO.

They do have a free trial and selfishly, if you click this and try them it helps me out with extra space: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTY2ODMyMDk5

Personally, I don't like either of them. But, I do recommend either of those to people who want a solution that's easy, just-works and don't require any technical messing abouts.

I'm content with using my own servers and scp in to, and for large data sets just using amazon S3 directly (which is what dropbox uses(used?) as the their backend).
