reverse tie dying? - 08-19-2010, 03:43 PM

I attempted to dye a muslin a year ago as a backdrop, and I really wasn't pleased with it. The problem was that I was going to do a gray background and used unbleached muslin. The result was a very warm gray instead of the neutral I was going for.

After reading several articles on tie dying, I am wondering if I couldn't use bleach instead of dye, but use the twisting and tie-ing procedures as outlined and bring this fabric back to a mottled look? Of course I know the gray color in it would still be the same warm tone, the original dyeing was not "tie dye" in nature.

if the color in it is too warm, why not add a bit of bluing to it during the dye process to balance the color a bit back to neutral?

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!
