I have a project in mind and need gears to make it come together.
I need small, less than 8inches in size. So far the only thing that comes to mind that has gears is non digital watches/clocks. Sewing machines.....What else? Any ideas of things I might be able to find?
Bigger would work but I would need have access and to photograph them in place in dallas. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

I'd go look at an older bank with a large vault door. My old bank in Fort Worth had a vault door that had the lockworks exposed behind glass when the door was open.
Not sure if they would let you take photos of the door... YMMV

nobody has said a bicycle and motorcyle yet...
oh yeah -- and the inside/underside of kitchen appliances like a blender and food processor -- just threw out a food processor that quit working.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

Kent is on with motorcycle suggestion, Big D Triumph has loads of tranny parts out back and they are in N. Dallas. I'm thinking you will see a range of from 1 to 4" in diameter stuff.

Might also check a machine shop. Where I work, we regularly have people needing gears bored or keyed...

If you wanna hit the mother lode, maybe call Martin Sprocket up there and see if they'll swap some product photos for whatever you want to do with some of their inventory? They make everything from probably in the 1/2" range up to probably 10-12" gears, sprockets, couplings, etc. etc. etc. Every one of 'em brand new and shiny. Or black, depending on what you're looking at... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
