Exclamation FYI -- newegg and Phishing attempt - 08-24-2010, 05:31 PM

I just received an invoice from newegg for a recent order.

Problem is that I haven't made any recent orders.

The customer number in the email is different than mine (logged into my account on newegg) but other than that it looks very convincing.

it has an html document attached (that I didn't open)

I did an online chat with customer service to confirm that they are aware of the issue (tried calling but the line was busy)

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone else who might have recieved a very convincing email.

I noticed that today too. Got about 5 of them on one email account. But I notice all their images (links broken) were missing in that email so got suspicious.

Get them all the time from various places... best scam I've heard lately is the detective calling from the police department... says they have a criminal case that has your name involved... doesn't think it's you, but he can clear it up real quick... he just needs a little information to help clear up the conflict... otherwise, they may have to "bring you in"............

There's another one that works far too often... someone calls you and says they're from Visa/Mastercard/AMEX and that your card may have been compromised... they don't want your card number, just to verify that the card is still in your possession... to do this they want to know the security code on the back of the card... they can get your card number at another time or place...

What I teach is unless you made the call, do not give out any information...
