Just wondering how the new IPHONE 4 is working for you?
When did you get (Month & Where)?
Do you have the bumper case on it? Better with it or with out it?
The kiddos want to buy me on for my birthday, I just don't know....
The wife & our son has the one before and they love it and I like it....
Please, I would like some feedback from TPF?
thanks.

How is the ATT coverage at the places you're most at? As of now, there is a 3-4 week wait from my understanding.
As I have always said, great looking device, crappy service.
Another option is the HTC EVO 4g with Sprint, 4g speed is nice along with the hotspot if you need the bandwidth for your laptop. Since you already have sprint, you already know how the coverage is.
Then there is Big Red with the Droid X and Droid Incredible. The Incredible has a beautiful AMOLED 4" screen and the Droid X has the 4.3" LCD, both are excellent devices on a reliable network for most people.

As long as coverage is good where you spend your time (and Verizon is NOT where I am) I would go for it. My wife has one, as do many, many of my customers, no complaints yet. My wife's has no bumper, and most of the ones I have seen do not either.
Personally, I do not care much for the Droids. They are pretty good phones, but so far they seem to me too much "me too!" instead of really breaking new ground. The new Blackberrys are nice without that feeling but I have just never been too much of a BB fan.
Right now I am still using a 3GS, can't really find a reason to upgrade.
Of course most of it is if you like the iPhones or not. If you do, the 3G to 4 is a huge improvement. The 3GS to 4 is just OK unless you are lusting after a specific new feature in the 4. Coming from a BB you would have to get used to the on screen keyboard but gain a much simpler interface, many more apps, etc. Coming from a Droid you get a better touchscreen and more apps. But it is really what you prefer.

We have 3 in the family, love them. Only one had drop call issues and bumper seemed to fix it. I like my bumper even though I didn't think I needed nor wanted it. Never had an issue with ATT coverage, have used them for over 12 years.

| HTC EVO4 is awesome.
Tonight, I didnt feel like walking up to the Press Box as I made my way out of the stadium as UH killed Texas State. I had already captioned/edited everything, just needed to transmit.
So I sat the laptop in my passenger seat. Plugged the EVO4 in. Flipped on the 4G speed. Clicked upload. By the time I drove from Robertson Stadium to 45N on Scott Street, I had uploaded 81MB of data. US PRESSWIRE :: Texas State at Houston
You couldn't pay me to switch from EVO4 to iPhone.

The kiddos want to buy me on for my birthday, I just don't know.... | I upgraded from the original iPhone... and I love the new one... only complaint is that the first gen phone was easier to hold in your hand.
I got lucky getting mine.. I hit the AT&T Store (2 week wait)... AT&T online (5-10 business days)... Apple Online Store (4 week wait). On a whim, I started calling Apple Stores that were within driving range and the first one I tried - Southlake store - had just gotten them in that morning. 15 minute drive and waited in line behind a dozen or so others who had the same idea and an hour later, I had an iPhone 4 in my hands.
I just got the free case.. not a bumper, but one that has a piece on the back as well. It has made it easier/more comfortable to hold in the hand. I didn't have a dropped call issue with it... and honestly, never really had one with AT&T or the iPhone. The occasional dropped call.. but usually those were under peak usage hours like rush hour.
I like mine a lot.... jury's still out on love it or not, but the screen sure is pretty to look at and the built in camera is really nice (with a flash, even). I often said that my first gen iPhone was the best phone I've ever owned (and I've had cell phones since 1993)... so we'll see on that one, still.

I choose not to buy apple as i wish not to support Al Gore(he sits on the board of directors for Apple -100 pts Steve Jobs) and his socks/sandals combination. I gladly chose the Android phones that support open ended software via linux.
But as far as phones go you just cant beat how robust and open an Android based phone is. The Samsung Captivate
The latest phone AT&T has is the Samsung Captivate running Android OS 2.1. As long as i have had the EVO it ran 2.1 which is a very, very, very stable system and can keep up with the busiest of photographers and their jobs/clients. 100k's of apps means no lack of what you may what to run on your phone. As far as performance goes the phone features the latest in display tech: AMOLED. what does that mean? it means you can load any picture you just shot on your D300s or whatever and see true vibrant colors and you can see them from almost any visible angle. It packs a 1GHz processor(i think its the Snapdragon form qualcomm but i may be wrong) that can blaze through a haze of apps, browsing, phone calls, txts, and pics. here is a link to Samsung's site for the official specs
its just really funny that Apple's no. 1 competitor in the mobile market is software not hardware. The iPhone4 was dated at launch compared to already available Android phones, period.
you can just disregard this Sprint/HTC stuff below: this is my take on an Android phone from Sprint:
I have the Evo, got it on launch. although being a nerd i couldnt help but to hack my phone and run a custom ROM(i guess operating system would be the closest thing to that) i dont feel obligated to paying sprint 40$ per month extra just to use wireless. As a stock phone the battery is the only thing that sucks on it but from what i hear on the xda-developers forums the android 2.2 update seems to fix that by adding another 1.5 hrs to the crummy battery for a grand total of 11-12 hours mixed use.
of course the 4g radio is more powerful and is capable of transmitting alot more data faster so naturally it will require more power thus shortening the battery.

I get dropped calls all over Houston!
No AT&T I have always had great service & coverage with them.
I was with them when it was Houston Cellular and I did not have any dropped calls. I do like the Droid, but hat is one BIGG A$$ screen! Quote:

| Doubtful. I get ~6-10 megabit downstream. My high speed internet at home gets the same. There is no way Verizon is getting 100 megabit downstream. That's faster than T1. | | | |

I love the iPhone 4. Much better than my old iPhone 3G, it's the perfect size, and with the jailbreak which is done within seconds, right on the phone, you get a lot of the advantages of Android. You can even dual boot up on Android OS. Things like Facetime can even work on the 3G network which is normally locked by ATT for bandwidth reasons.

I just ordered a pair for my wife and I. Had a couple dropped calls so far, but not sure if that was location (I work in a big metal building, most phones don't even get a signal at all) or the antenna issue. Cases have been ordered just in case.
The lead times being quoted seem wrong, we got ours in two days.

3G can deliver well over 1.5Mb which is the speed of a T1 line. In a good area you can see bursts of over 3Mb on 3G and sustained speeds of over 2Mb, at least with my iPhone tests. I have seen reports of 4G speeds in excess of 14Mb but in real world testing anything over 500kb really doesn't matter for most people as all they do is surf the web and email. Of course if you tether that may make a huge difference to you transferring files.

Allan | I routinely get sustained speeds over 6MB with my EVO4 on 4G here in Houston. I have streamed HD movies to my laptop while tethered through Netflix. Occasionally I get up around 9-10MB. A friend in Dallas routinely gets ~9MB on his EVO4. In real world, having the speed of 4G does make a HUGE difference. I switched from a 3G phone.
Getting speeds equal to high-speed internet is pretty awesome. Especially when watching videos and whatnot.
AND, you can still get unlimited internet from Sprint, unlike ATT and Verizon. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
