Scenic/Photography places in Central Europe? - 09-04-2010, 10:10 PM

I'll be heading to Munich in a few weeks, and have a week to just drive around freely. I'm trying to find the most scenic places to go and drive... any thoughts/experiences? Also to go crazy with photographing it of course.

Munich, Black Forest, Fussen, Neuschwanstein castle, Alpine road, Luceme, Stelvio, Splugen, Lake Constance, Berchstegaden, etc are on my plate right now. Open for ideas/thoughts :)

Whoa! Slow down. That's a long list already. Aim for a lot less but but really "see" where you do go.
Rothenburg

There is no end to sites to photograph in Europe. We spent a few days in Fussen, a couple of years ago. Make your way here. There were a bunch of cows in the fields next to the church.

Seek out churches, cathedrals, etc. Outside and inside they are amazing. Nothing like them on this side of the Pond.

Wander around small towns. Away from tour busses. You'll find something interesting.

Heh, I'm not going to hit all of those (although would be awesome), just my options at the moment, but very true! I didn't know about Rothenburg, looks amazing!

I'm planning to avoid large cities completely actually, and great advice! looking forward.

Ahhhhh, Germany, how I miss thee! My favorites, besides Bavaria in general, are already on the list...Berchtesgaden, Lake Constance, I'd visit Garmisch, too. Rothenburg is gorgeous, especially if you'll be there at Christmas. If you get to go west at all, (which you'll have to to get to the Black Forest) visit Schwabisch Hall. My dad lived there for many, many years and it's such a charming town, another of my favorite places in Germany. It's hard for me to pin it down, really, I love the whole country! There's a pretty neat auto museum not far from there, but I can't remember the name of the town it's in. Nuremberg, where I was stationed, has some awesome historical sites (I'm a big WWII buff, tho), architecture, fountains, parks, etc. Can I stow away in your luggage? ;)
