Not directly. You sync both the iPad and iPhone to the same desk or laptop computer through iTunes.

Dang it. That would kinda defeat the purpose for me getting one then. I don't necessarily need a laptop, and the laptop I have always crashes my iPhone when I update software (both my laptop and desktop do). So I'd like to get an iPad but it's pointless if that won't work.

Dude my laptop used to do the same thing to my iPhone. It was an old Toshiba running Windows XP. Never could find out what caused it to brick my iPhone every time, but assumed it was a software conflict.
From what I've read, mine was a rare case and shouldn't have had problems syncing on a PC.

Here's a question: I read about a photographer in the recent past, who for a limited time was including an iPad pre-loaded the clients wedding photos, in one of his Wedding Packages. How would you load the photos? You have to sync to your computer to load photos, right? Then how would the client then sync to their library without losing the photos?

Sam,

You do not have to sync to load photos, you could upload the photos to a website, download from there, you could use the camera connection kit, you could Telnet/SSH over to it, etc.
